Keynote Speaker – Emily Cook, Freestyle Aerialist

Emily Cook

-       Ranked 1st in the US and 2nd in the World in 2013

-       2014, 2010 & 2006 Olympian

-       Nine World Cup podiums

-       Six-time US Aerial Champion

Emily Cook exemplifies determination and persistence like no other. U.S. champion and ex-gymnast Emily Cook grew up in suburban Boston and never let go of her dream to compete in the Olympics. The top US female aerialist leading up to the 2002 Salt Lake Games, Cook secured herself a spot on the Olympic team with a win at the 2001 Gold Cup. Two weeks before Opening Ceremonies, Emily crashed during a training jump in Lake Placid and caused serious and extensive damage to both feet, sidelining her for three competition seasons. Instead of participating in the 2002 Winter Olympics, she cheered on her teammates from a wheelchair in her red, white and blue casts. She spent the next three years rehabilitating, but persevered and returned just one year prior to the 2006 games. Emily’s Olympic dream never diminished and in 2006 she secured her spot on the U.S. Olympic Team, followed by Vancouver in 2010. Heading into her final Winter Olympic Games in 2014, Emily left no stone unturned in her quest for Olympic glory and finished in a personal best 8th place out of 22 competitors in a difficult new event format. As a testament to her huge heart and longstanding leadership role on the U.S. team, just moments after she herself was eliminated she was seen coming to the aid of fellow American Ashley Caldwell who also failed to make the final.
